Your conversations are processed on your iPhone. Downloads, purchase checks and support use online services. Here is what that means in practice.

The short version

Speech, translation and optional text refinement run on-device. There is no nearby-language listening or speaker separation in this release.
Knowless does not keep a permanent conversation history.
SenseVoiceSmall fallback speech and noise-reduction resources are included; Apple language resources may still need downloading.
RevenueCat checks purchase access, including for people who have not bought Adless.
Network ads are off in the release described here.

Conversations and copying

Starting listening uses your microphone. Supported speech recognition, translation and optional text refinement run on-device. Depending on the selected language and what iOS has installed, speech recognition uses either Apple's on-device resource or the SenseVoiceSmall model included with the app. These features do not upload conversation audio or text to Knowless, RevenueCat, advertising services or cloud AI services. This audio-only release does not use the camera or recognize faces.

Opening or closing the language selector does not activate the microphone. Listening starts only after you request it and microphone permission and required resources are ready.

Audio needed for processing and the recent feed remain in memory. Stopping ends capture, but processing and display updates can finish afterward. Changing languages can retain earlier passages. The feed is not restored after the app process ends.

Copy puts text on the system clipboard. Universal Clipboard may make it available on your other Apple devices. Other apps handle text you paste into them. Obtain any necessary permission before transcribing others.

Resources

Translation first uses Apple's on-device Foundation Models when available for both selected languages. Limited recent transcript context helps interpret the current passage. Apple Translation provides a fallback when needed; that fallback may require downloaded language resources. These paths do not use cloud AI inference.

Apple manages speech and translation resources, which may need online preparation. For supported listening languages without a compatible installed Apple speech asset, Knowless uses its bundled SenseVoiceSmall fallback. This fallback does not replace Apple's translation resources or support every listening language.
